Catherine McAuley 09.02.21

This week in Kakapo class we are talking about Catherine McAuley. She was born in 1778 on September the 29th. Catherine was born in Ireland. Catherine had two siblings, a brother and a sister. They were protestants. Catherine McAuley's mum died from a fever. Catherine built a house on Bogget St where rich people lived. The rich people offered her money. She built it in 1827.

The House of Mercy was for women who lived on the streets. She also helped the women to get jobs and gave kids a proper education. Catherine McAuley cared for the poor. The House of Mercy was open in September the 24th 1827. She built the Mouse of mercy for poor people.


Catherine travelled to France to learn how to teach large classes, Catherine was only 52 when she travelled to France.
