 Matariki

In the 21st century, noticing Matariki has grown in regard. Matariki or the Maori new year commemoration were once popular, but then had stopped in the 1940. During the 2000, they were received and marked each year. When Te Rangi Huata arranged his first Matariki celebration in Hastings in the 2000, regarding 500 people connected with him in 2003, about 15,000 people had came! Te Rangi Huata believes that Matariki is becoming more popular because it celebrates the Maori culture and in doing so it brings all the New Zealanders.
