Catherine McAuley 09.02.21

This week in Kakapo class we are talking about Catherine McAuley. She was born in 1778 on September the 29th. Catherine was born in Ireland. Catherine had two siblings, a brother and a sister. They were protestants. Catherine McAuley's mum died from a fever. Catherine built a house on Bogget St where rich people lived. The rich people offered her money. She built it in 1827.

The House of Mercy was for women who lived on the streets. She also helped the women to get jobs and gave kids a proper education. Catherine McAuley cared for the poor. The House of Mercy was open in September the 24th 1827. She built the Mouse of mercy for poor people.

Catherine travelled to France to learn how to teach large classes, Catherine was only 52 when she travelled to France.

                            MY Holiday

In the holidays i was up at my grandparents house.
They live on a gigantic farm with lots of animals. My
favourite animal on the farm is Boy the horse because he
is fast and strong.

It took a long time to get to my grandparents house
because they live in a small town called Te Kao. My
favourite bit of the holiday was when my papa let my
cousins and i got to ride mowers, the mower was a bright
shiny yellow ride on a mower in the paddock the sun  shining
on back, wind blowing through my face, birds chirping.

Once the holidays were almost gone it started to pour down
rain thunder strikes the farm was flooded, water was over
the bridge so we could not get out.

 That was also the day we were suppose to come back to
Kaitaia. Two hours later the flood had finally stopped.

Once we got to Kaitaia it started to rain badly. We got home
when we walked inside. We were soaked and that is my
holiday.

   

Save the animals

In RE we have being learning how we can look after God's creation.
I wrote how we can save animals.

Our land has lots of endangered animals. We can save our animals by putting the rubbish where it belongs because some animals think it is food. The rubbish mostly ends up in the sea and the sea animals think its jellyfish or shrimp. The animals are dying because of us that is why I want to save the animals so they can live longer and so we get to see more animals. I love animals even if they are big or small.

Kakapo and other birds are getting endangered animals are very special and friendly even if they can’t fly they are still getting endangered. People are harming our native birds by shooting them and killing them it is not only birds its pigs, ducks, and lots of more.

Animals are really endangered. We need to stop killing our animals, because God made animals for us to look after. I wish all the animals were safe and not endangered.

Trip to Whangarei

We were writing recounts, so I wrote about my Whangarei weekend. I hope you enjoy my writing.

Last weekend Tia, Mum and I went to Whangarei to go and watch Tia play netball. We left early in the morning. When we were going to Whangarei, I got car sick.
Tia had five games. My mum and I got hungry, so we went to the cafe, and had a snack. I had some seafood chowder. My mum had some soup and a brownie. We took our food back, to go watch Tia play her game of netball.
I got bored, so I went to the car and watched a movie on my mum’s computer. I was still in there, when Tia was finished. She put her things in the car and we left.
Just after we left, my mum got a phone call. It was my sister’s coach. She said, “You need to come back. We have two more games left !” “Oh no!”, said Tia.
Five hours later… are you finished yet Tia? It was the longest day of my life! I got bored again, so I went to play shots, but it was time to go for real now. Tia was sweating so much it was disgusting. I felt like I was going to spew up all over the seat. Tia’s sweat looked like water - so gross! It was dripping in the car.
I really wished that I had stayed at home, but it was a nice weekend.
